THE HISTORY OF SNOOPY
Snoopy, the beloved beagle, first appeared on October 4, 1950, just two days after the Peanuts comic strip debuted. Fun fact: he was almost named “Sniffy,” until creator Charles Schulz remembered his mother once suggesting the name “Snoopy.” And the rest is history.
Although Snoopy’s birthday is celebrated on a few different dates in Peanuts, August 10 has become his official birthday based on comics that ran from August 8–10, 1968.
Our Vintage Snoopy is based on the very first drawing of Snoopy, the original look before he evolved into the rounder, more familiar form we know today. This is the original Snoopy, just as he first appeared on the page.
